My First Triathlon

Today was the big day!  And it started bright and early!  Sam is not only teething but got his 6 mo shots yesterday so needless to say he is not a happy camper and screamed a good part of the night.  Ben was able to get work off today so he took baby duty while I tried to sleep.  At 5:15 I gave up and got up to get ready.  The whole crew showed up at the pool by a little after 6 and met up with Jordanna.  I found a place for our bikes on the rack, laid out my gear, checked in, got my timing chip and had my numbers written all over myself.  Then it was time to wait.  The cute kids race started at 7 then the adults started at 7:15 with swimmers entering the water in 30 second intervals and swimming serpentine (one lap in the first lane then under the lane line next lap in that lane and so on until you reach the last lane) through the pool.  Jordanna was one of the 1st in the water.  Because I was in the shorter race I didn’t hit the water until 8:30.  I felt really good about my position in the pool.  I let 3 swim team guys go in front of me while we waited in line and a non swimmer behind me so I only had to pass one person (after the 3 swim teamers passed her) and was never passed. It was a great swim.  Then it was on to transition and the bike!  I never thought I’d say this but, I love to bike!!!!  It was so much fun!  I passed a few people (all who passed me again during the run :) but had to walk my bike up the last of the killer hill, it was a monster!  Then back to transition, change shoes and run/walk.  My worst event.  But even then it was fun.  I loved that Ben and the kids came with me.  It was great to have their support and cheers at each transition and to see them at the finish line.  The whole thing was so so so fun I LOVED every moment even more than I thought I would and cannot wait to do another!  Only one problem.  How do I get the numbers off my skin?  The one on my arm washed off pretty well in the shower.  But even with major scrubbing I still have the number 60 on my thigh and both calves!

Homework

How quickly the joy of the first day of school is crushed by the first day of homework!  Have I mentioned how much I hate despise homework?

Jon walked in the front door and flopped right onto the couch.   “Mom? I thought you said today was early out day?”

“It is.  You are home an hour early today.”

“No! That was way long, today was late day!”

Back to school!

School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me excited? NO WAY!   It's only the 1st day of school and I already feel more on top of things.  Emma and Jon are in the a.m. track at school this year.  It means getting up and going a little early but I think that might be a good thing.  This morning went pretty OK for the first day and hopefully as the weeks go by we'll get pretty good at the up and out by 7:50 thing.  Brigham has handled the 1st day pretty well, but of course kindergarten doesn't start until next week so he still has friends in the circle.  Next week he will have to get used to playing with only Mom and Sam during the day.  I can't wait to hear how the first day went at school when Emma and Jon get home, especially Jon who is doing his first full day after last years half day kindergarten!

School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la,  School today la la la-la!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tagged! 6 things about ME!

I was tagged by Jordanna to write 6 random things about myself.  So here it goes!

1. I Love to sew quilts! It is one of my favorite unwind activities.  There's nothing like ironing, cutting and sewing to help destress after a long day.  Thats probably why I have a whole room devoted to the activity, with one wall covered in felt to layout quilts and hang my pieces while I work and more fabric in the closet then a girl can use in a life time!

2 Because I stopped typing this to go do it, here's number 2.  I cut my family's hair.  No, I don't have any formal training and that's why they look funny most of the time, but, I do my best.  If I don't find a stylist I like soon I may resort to cutting my own hair or at least giving Ben directions while he cuts it.

3 I'm doing my first triathlon this Saturday.  I've wanted to do one since high school but never felt in good enough shape.  Jordanna inspired me and I signed up.  Then Ben brought the book "Slow Fat Triathlete" home for me.  And after reading it I decided to just go for it and have fun!  It turns out I really enjoy riding my bike and am starting to crave my workout time.  With any luck this will be the first of many triathlons in the future!

4 I want to go back to school and study interior design.

5 I love to scrapbook.  Both with paper and digital.  I can spend hours on the computer playing in photoshop trying new things.  I'm not really a pro yet, but working on it.  Here's a picture I did for Brigham

6 I turn 30 in October and, believe it or not, I can't wait!  It's something I am very excited about for lots of reasons.  I feel very good about my life right now and this milestone is a way to celebrate that.  I'm also happy to be in the same decade as Ben again!

Well, there you go nothing new or exciting but thats me!  Now I'm tagging, Laila, Jen and Kim (hee hee hee, now you have to update your blog!Big Smile)  I know it's not 6 but good enough!

The rules:1.Link the person who tagged you.2.Post the rules on your blog.3.Write 6 random things about yourself.4.Tag 6 people at the end of your post and link to them.5.Let the person know you tagged them on their blog. Let the tagger know when you've posted.

End Of Summer

Yes, I've been MIA for almost a month so here's a recap of the last month!

We went to see the movie Wall-E with Ben's work.  I went into it with low expectations but thought it was a cute show.  The kids loved it thanks 4th floor!

Jon finally got his cast put on.  It's a cool camouflage cast, which I love because it hides how completely filthy it is.

Emma announced that I never had to change a diaper again!  She has become a little Mom to Sam and begs to babysit him everyday.

Ben and I left the kids with Grandma Rhonda and stayed the night at Johnson's Mill Bed & Breakfast it was so beautiful and relaxing. A great battery recharge!

Now we have just one week until school starts and life becomes scheduled again.  I'm actually looking froward to it even though I HATE homework!
