Today was the big day! And it started bright and early! Sam is not only teething but got his 6 mo shots yesterday so needless to say he is not a happy camper and screamed a good part of the night. Ben was able to get work off today so he took baby duty while I tried to sleep. At 5:15 I gave up and got up to get ready. The whole crew showed up at the pool by a little after 6 and met up with Jordanna. I found a place for our bikes on the rack, laid out my gear, checked in, got my timing chip and had my numbers written all over myself. Then it was time to wait. The cute kids race started at 7 then the adults started at 7:15 with swimmers entering the water in 30 second intervals and swimming serpentine (one lap in the first lane then under the lane line next lap in that lane and so on until you reach the last lane) through the pool. Jordanna was one of the 1st in the water. Because I was in the shorter race I didn’t hit the water until 8:30. I felt really good about my position in the pool. I let 3 swim team guys go in front of me while we waited in line and a non swimmer behind me so I only had to pass one person (after the 3 swim teamers passed her) and was never passed. It was a great swim. Then it was on to transition and the bike! I never thought I’d say this but, I love to bike!!!! It was so much fun! I passed a few people (all who passed me again during the run
but had to walk my bike up the last of the killer hill, it was a monster! Then back to transition, change shoes and run/walk. My worst event. But even then it was fun. I loved that Ben and the kids came with me. It was great to have their support and cheers at each transition and to see them at the finish line. The whole thing was so so so fun I LOVED every moment even more than I thought I would and cannot wait to do another! Only one problem. How do I get the numbers off my skin? The one on my arm washed off pretty well in the shower. But even with major scrubbing I still have the number 60 on my thigh and both calves!
